We at Staten Island Day Camp enjoy the unique and important role in providing an enriching multifaceted program for our younger campers who require a designed program that fosters their imagination, curiosity and intellect. The Staten Island Day Camp Early Childhood program is designed to enhance the day camp experience for your young child.  A great beginning for our youngest campers obviously needs to start with great educators.  Our dedicated and experienced counselors and directors have degrees with special training in early childhood education.  We take pride in the fact that all of our director staff are among our area's most respected professionals. They posses a fine understanding of child development, an interest in the uniqueness of each child and an ability to provide a warm and nurturing environment. 
 

Our youngest campers are embraced by the nurturing, caring environment that SIDC has provided for over 30 years! Early Childhood Campers (ages 5-6 years old) will benefit from  not only a continuity of care with a 1 to 5 adult counselor (college or older) camper ratio, but will enjoy the summer in a familiar and consistent environment because their program requires no off site travel.
With the nurturing support given by our assistant director for Early Childhood, who is an early childhood specialist and  N.Y.C. certified teacher, and counselors each camper is provided with developmentally appropriate activities in the areas of art, swimming, games and sports.  Our N.Y.C. Board Of Education Certified Psychologist, who also assists in meeting the developmental needs and temperament of our younger campers, also oversees the Early Childhood Program.

The most important aspect of our Early Childhood Program is the authentic play experiences your child will have each day at SIDC. We know that young children need the space and materials, and guidance by caring and qualified adults to explore independently and in groups. The time that your child spends at SIDC can best be described as "the experience that lasts a lifetime".  Our Early Childhood program holds as its fundamental and basic goal, quality camping in an atmosphere of love and security. 
The recreational grounds and building facilities of the College of Staten Island allow us to foster the needs of our younger campers in not only in enjoyable activities, but also in a safe and secure environment. Our counselors help each child acquire knowledge, build self-esteem and learn problem-solving skills. 
 At Staten Island Day Camp, youngsters have fun while building the social and emotional foundations needed for future success in a changing world. The SIDC 2012 Camp Calendar of events promotes natural curiosity with all our age campers and it is a springboard to learning skills that are necessary for success in school. Children learn how to share, take turns and work in groups. They also develop age-appropriate skills that form the foundation for necessary socialization skills.
